A CV8 spell with the traditional 13” range, Screech has the dreaded thirteenth spell which targets an enemy unit and rolls 13 dice, doing a mortal wound for each 4+. That’s a lot of mortal wounds but on top of that you can then summon a unit of Clanrats with one model for each wound caused by the spell. This is a little awkward as they have to be set up wholly within 13” of Skreech and more than 9” from enemy units, but is still a “free” unit. Besides the wonky unit sizes, the biggest downfall of this box are the Saurus Knights, who are a wet dinofart of a unit. However, since you’re virtually getting them for free they can make a nice display piece of you’re so inclined. The ratmen use a steady stream of fodder to fight their wars and excel at constantly expanding their territory through sheer weight of numbers. When the time comes to strike, the skaven burst from tunnels through reality in seething tides. They utilize everything from peculiar devices, filthy magics, virulent toxins, mutated beasts, and even the daemonic avatars of the Horned Rat to tear down the works of civilisation. Their strength is in their nearly limitless supply of warriors and the accumulation of vast hordes of warpstone – solidified crystals of raw Chaos energy – to power both their sorcery and their technology.

Even if they aren’t all worth playing, you’ve got a large variety of units to choose from.Verminous Valour – After save rolls or rolls to ignore wounds, pass wounds off of the hero to a nearby friendly Skaventide unit within 3” on the roll of a 4+, or a 5+ if the hero is a Monster or War Machine. Best on a Plague Furnace to help it stay on the table longer while surrounded by plague monks, but there are better options here. B-

In the top 3 of repeatable Start Collecting. If you’re getting into the Bray-Bois you’ll end up with many of these. Great buy. Skaven have been blessed with a bit of a grab bag here, no absolutely safe gimmes but it’s all just about doable if you build for it specifically. Having larger units is reinforced via two key rules that all Skaven can benefit from. Overwhelming Mass sees Skaven units get +1 to melee hit rolls when they have 20 models in a unit, and gain +1 to wound rolls when they have 30 models in a unit. This turns any middling Skaven unit into an absolute beast in combat, and means your opponent will have to whittle your units down if they want to stand any chance at surviving the onslaught.TAKE ALL OF THE CLAWLORDS. Seriously just take a bunch. Up to 6 Clawlords that are not your General get to take a command trait, for free, they just get one. Can’t take the same one twice and can’t have a model with more than 1 command trait, but this does mean those Clawlords you are taking will always have a trait, and means you get to take something else as your General and still give them a command trait too. Skryre – Warpstone Sparks Clans Skryre weapon teams are vital to protecting these large, key units. An opponent might want to charge those 60 Clanrats with something like Witch Aelves , but if there’s a Warpfire Thrower sitting just behind them, the prospect of a lot of mortal wounds from Unleash Hell before they get to fight might just make them think twice.
