About this deal

One of the biggest problem most younger children have is with aiming the binoculars. Firstly because most binoculars have a fairly narrow view and because kids are never still or steady, they find it hard to aim and keep the image still on binoculars. Unlike a ( monocular) telescope, binoculars give users a three-dimensional image: each eyepiece presents a slightly different image to each of the viewer's eyes and the parallax allows the visual cortex to generate an impression of depth.

Also included is a cleaning cloth which is of good quality and thus fine for light use on the lenses. Objective lens assembly. This is the lens assembly at the front of the binoculars. It gathers light from the object and forms an image at the image plane. Porro prism binoculars are named after Ignazio Porro, who patented this image erecting system in 1854. The later refinement by Ernst Abbe and his cooperation with glass scientist Otto Schott and instrument maker Carl Zeiss resulted in 1894 in the commercial introduction of improved 'modern' Porro prism binoculars by the Carl Zeiss company. [1] Binoculars of this type use a pair of Porro prisms in a Z-shaped configuration to erect the image. This results in wide binoculars, with objective lenses that are well separated and offset from the eyepieces, giving a better sensation of depth. Porro prism designs have the added benefit of folding the optical path so that the physical length of the binoculars is less than the focal length of the objective. Porro prism binoculars were made in such a way to erect an image in a relatively small space, thus binoculars using prisms started in this way. I had also initially thought that these may be ideal to take to a gallery or museum, but with this relatively long minimum focus distance, this not the case, which is a slight shame.

Floating strap: some marine binoculars float on water, to prevent sinking. Marine binoculars that do not float are sometime supplied with or provided by the user as an aftermarket accessory with a strap that will function as a flotation device. In the early 2020s, the commercial market share of Porro prism-type binoculars had become the second most numerous compared to other prism-type optical designs. [10] To be able to enjoy the whole show or sporting event without having to move your head about to follow the action, a wide FOV is critical and so this is another area (as well as not having to hold binoculars up to your face for the duration) where I feel the Kabuki Glasses have a major advantage over your normal opera glasses. Another worry of mine before testing the Kabuki Glasses was comfort. But this was no issue for me at all, which if you are going to be using them for long periods at a show for example, this is a definite highlight compare to standard opera glasses or Lorgnette opera glasses that have a handle and where you have to hold the instrument up to your face.

Whilst all the lenses look like they have seals around them and there are no obvious gaps anywhere, it would be a good idea to keep your Kabuki Glasses stored in their excellent case which they come supplied with when not in use, just to be sure. Eye Cups With a 4x magnification and 13mm objective lenses, the Kabuki Glasses produce a exit pupil that is 3.25mm in diameter, which is a fair bit smaller than on your standard 8x42 binoculars (5.25mm) and so for general low light use these are not ideal.Independent focusing is an arrangement where the two telescope tubes are focused independently by adjusting each eyepiece. Binoculars designed for harsh environmental conditions and heavy field use, such as military or marine applications, traditionally have used independent focusing. Internal focusing, which focuses binoculars by moving internal mounted optical lenses located between the objective lens group and the prism assembly – or rarely located between the prism assembly and eyepiece lens assembly [22] [37] – within the housing without changing the volume of the binoculars. The addition of a focusing lens reduces the light transmission of the optical system contained in the telescope tube somewhat. Internal focusing is generally considered the mechanically more robust central focusing solution and with the help of an appropriate seal like O-rings air and moisture ingress can be prevented, to make binoculars fully waterproof. [38] If you also consider that because most standard opera glasses use the Galilean design, this means that their effective width of view is even less than stated because this design means that they have a large area around the edges of the view that is blurry and out of focus. As might be expected, Swarovski brings its best class of glass—a fluorite recipe that tames aberrant light and intensifies colors and depth—to the NL Pure, which is also available in 8×32, 8×42, 10×32, and 10×42 versions. But if the stunning image gets your attention, the mannerly controls keep you glassing. The oversized focus wheel is located within easy reach of index fingers and turns with cool precision, and the elegantly tapered eyecups fit most brows comfortably. The open-barrel design is a cinch to use with a single hand.

Nitrogen or argon filled interior: the interior is filled with 'dry' gas to prevent internal fogging/tarnishing of the optical surfaces. As fungi can not grow in the presence of an inert or noble gas atmosphere, it also prevents lens fungus formation. If you do happen to get the lenses particularly dirty and need a harsher clean, I would suggest using a full optical lens cleaning kit, just to ensure that you don't mark the lenses. The level of contrast was also normal, so the image did not at all look washed out or with too much contrast.Porro prism and Perger prism binoculars and roof prism binoculars using the Abbe–Koenig roof prism configuration do not use mirror coatings because these prisms reflect with 100% reflectivity using total internal reflection in the prism rather than requiring a (metallic) mirror coating. Our 10-point evaluation adds up to a total numeric score, but we translate those to grades for each submission. The optical performance grade combines the scores from resolution, low light, image, and brightness. Our mechanical performance grade aggregates the mechanics and durability score. The design grade considers construction, innovation, versatility, and comfort. And then the price/value grade is our value grade. Roof prism binoculars may have appeared as early as the 1870s in a design by Achille Victor Emile Daubresse. [13] [14] In 1897 Moritz Hensoldt began marketing pentaprism based roof prism binoculars. With this petite binocular, introduced earlier this year, Maven is well on its way to filling out its product line. The B.7 is a compact version of the direct-to-consumer company’s excellent B.3 line.Reticle scale: a navigational aid which uses a horizon line and a vertical scale for measuring the distance of objects of known width or height – sometimes an important navigational aid. I tested the Kabuki Glasses on my 6 year old daughter and whilst she had become pretty good at using "dads binoculars", there was an immediate and obvious improvement with these. She no longer had the fidgety hands problem shared by most kids and once I had set the IPD correctly to match her narrower eyes, she had no problem in aiming, finding and following objects. aluminium-coated: the roof prism mirrors are coated with an aluminium coating (the default if a mirror coating isn't mentioned). To put this into context take a look at the table below, even though most opera glasses have a lower 3x power, their FOV dwarfs in comparison to these:
