I thought the first part of this book was interesting and did some really fantastic world building, but then it unravels. It's also everyone's story - from treats with your nan, to cheese and pineapple hedgehogs, to the exquisite joy of cheaply-made apple crumble with custard. Instead, I figured out how to crack the operating system of my Gizmo and reconfigured it to hop from stealth server to stealth server all over the world.
K. I hated it so much during the first 200 pages and I was actually thinking about DNF'ing, but due to guilt, I just couldn't. George’s illness is glimpsed throughout the book, from the early days when it’s still a family joke (“He’s not got dementia,” her mother assures her, “he’s just a dickhead”) to the final Christmas, when food provides a way to bring the family together in the most painful circumstances.
