If you’re new to Will and Sarah-no worries! This book will fill you in on all you need to know about their past, to understand what’s unraveling in the current day. It’s full of twists and thrills. The dialog is smooth and the characters are well structured. The ending is fire! 🔥🤯 Thank you to William Morrow & NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. I received this book for free, but all thoughts are my own. – SLR 🖤

When Leigh finds out she has been chosen to represent a young man accused of rape, she is ready to do her job until she recognizes the person in front of her. She knew him many years ago and he seems to know her deepest secret.Adaptations: None. The Karin Slaughter novel that has been adapted to film or TV so far is Pieces of Her, which snared Toni Collette in its twisty, violent grasp as a Netflix movie in 2022. Andrea as a character really grows on you, she seems to become more confident as she is now standing on her own two feet becoming resourceful and determined . I really like her partner too, Deputy Leonard Bible known as Catfish. I especially like his rules, he’s funny and the injection of his humour into the dark plot is most welcome. The other characters by and large are pieces of work, really awful excuses for human beings but they do make for immersive reading. Callie and Leigh are sisters, raised in poverty by the year of the mother who were abusive and neglectful from the beginning. They are connected by a crime they committed when they were teenagers. Could we blame them after being witnessed their dealt shitty hand and the obstacles they had to endure when they were only two children. Yes, it’s not fair to blame them! They did what they had to do for surviving!

Slaughter says that her carefree childhood was interrupted by the changes brought about by the fear that spread through her community. The experience sparked an interest in how communities respond to crime. Slaughter is still a Southern girl: she lives in Atlanta and says that stereotypes about the South make her ‘absolutely furious’. Her last name really is Slaughter, and even as a small child, she was fascinated by the macabre. This interest set her apart from most of the other little girls in her small hometown of Jonesboro, Georgia, where her father ran a local car dealership. Karin Slaughter didn’t mind being different, though; even as a child, she was too busy reading to care what other people thought. Slaughter was different in other obvious ways, too. Thanks to my favorite librarian Merricat for sharing her ARC with me! Libraries are great everyone should visit them and become friends with librarians!!!!!!

Wow, just wow, False Witness is superb writing by Karin Slaughter. This is my 21st Slaughter book and one of her best stand-alones that I've read. Cop Town is equally wonderful. As usual in her books, there are horrific scenes of cruel debauchery done by unrepentant psychopaths who like to prey on children and women. Slaughter never pulls her punches on violence. She describes the real thing, not the stylized type seen in movies. Having said that, she doesn't use violence for entertainment purposes. It is a warning. There are horrible people out there who are worse than animals, since animals only kill to eat. Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite authors in all of the land, and I was eager to read this latest standalone...although I was sad it wasn’t the latest Will Trent book. But I digress. This one gives me the same depressing, anxious, sad feelings as well. I think this book may be the one of the saddest stories she’s ever created! This sends Sara, Will and Faith on a mission to see what they can find out about the current case, Sara’s case and several other cases that come up. And how Sara’s peers from school might be connected to all of them. On a Sunday night at her daughter’s school play, she gets a call from one of the firm's partners who wants Leigh to come on board to defend a wealthy man accused of multiple counts of rape. Though wary of the case, it becomes apparent she doesn't have much choice if she wants to keep her job. They're scheduled to go to trial in one week. When she meets the accused face-to-face, she realizes that it’s no coincidence that he’s specifically asked for her to represent him. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he may know what happened over twenty years ago, and why Leigh has spent two decades avoiding her past.

It’s so rare to find a mystery thriller that has such well developed characters and False Witness is probably one of the best I’ve seen so far. I loved the sisters. I didn’t realise how much I connected and rooted for them till the end because It actually made me emotional (I usually have a heart of stone :D). Q: As in most of your books, “False Witness” focuses on contemporary social issues and women who survive hardships through their courage and wits. I highly recommend this series to those who like hard hitting police novels. These books don't shy away from tough subjects, so avoid them if you enjoy your mysteries more on the cozy side. I found myself not wanting this book to end. I loved that it was set in current times, with discussions of the impact of Covid. I haven’t read any other books that have done this yet. It added another layer of reality. At times I found myself loosing focus, but my life is very busy at the moment so I think that is why. Then a case lands on her desk - defending a wealthy man accused of rape. It's the highest profile case she's ever been given - a case which could transform her career, if she wins. But when she meets the accused, she realises that it's no coincidence that he's chosen her as his attorney. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he knows what happened twenty years ago, and why Leigh has spent two decades running.A: A partial hysterectomy was performed wherein my reproductive organs were removed. I can no longer have children. And they did! They survived but did they have a fulfilled life? Didn’t they let the guilt feeling gnaw inside of them and make them suffer for years? Yes, they did! Both of them the queens of self destruction! Dark, twisted, and filled with gritty characters and gruesome situations, this book had me covering my eyes. This is not an easy read, as it is filled with the lowest of the low. There is a high level of tension and suspense. In the end, Leigh and Callie got under my skin and broke my heart. After That Night is the eleventh book in the Will Trent series by best-selling American author, Karin Slaughter. Three years after Sara Linton desperately tries to save the life of an accident victim in the ED at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, she’s testifying in a civil court in a compensation suit for the young woman’s wrongful death. Will Trent books have really become my comfort space and reliable reads. If I’ve gone through a book slump I know Karin will deliver something titillated that will keep me guessing.

THE AUTHOR: Karin Slaughter is one of the world’s most popular and acclaimed storytellers. Published in 120 countries with more than 35 million copies sold across the globe, her 21 novels include the Grant County and Will Trent books, as well as the Edgar-nominated COP TOWN and the instant NYT bestselling stand-alone novels PRETTY GIRLS, THE GOOD DAUGHTER, and PIECES OF HER. Slaughter is the founder of the Save the Libraries project—a nonprofit organization established to support libraries and library programming. A native of Georgia, she lives in Atlanta. Her stand-alone novel PIECES OF HER is in development with Netflix, starring Toni Collette, and the Grant County and Will Trent series are in development for television. The Georgia Series combines the worlds of Grant County and Will Trent. Sara Linton has moved from Heartsdale to the big city and encounters Faith Mitchell–and her partner Will Trent–in the hospital. This series presents the best of two worlds for Slaughter fans. Books in the Georgia series include Fallen, Broken, and Undone. Slaughter’s Thriller Recipe: Faith finally dating a decent guy. Hopefully she hangs on to him. And her going all out mama bear for her son was nice. Any time these three work together. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, they work well as a team. There is not the huge build up for the big climax as they wrap the case. Not as much action as with other books. There is a twist that was unexpected but it was kinda anticlimactic. Nothing really unexpected.

Publication Order of Georgia Books

I‘ve been reading Karin Slaughter’s books for years, enjoying her series just as much as her stand-alone. And this is no exception. Yet another fabulous addition! False Witness is a suspenseful thriller about two sisters who get caught up in a revenge plot linked to their pasts. This is a tautly written cat and mouse game filled with deplorable characters, violence, and love that transcends darkness. Callie and Leigh were brought up by a mother who repeatedly abused them. At a young age, they had to find work to stay alive and feed themselves. There were a few continuity issues that just bugged me personally. In A Faint Cold Fear Mason has a three year old son, now he has two daughters. Adam Humphrey was a character in Fractured, now he’s a cop? Not a big deal, just made my brain itch a bit.
